This SDL has multiple owners at different stratigraphic horizons and different percentages at those horizons although the COMPANY_NM field only shows one owner, which is in fact the representative of all companies which are co-licencees of the SDL. Also of note, when displaying SDL079-NWT with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada's (INAC) oil and gas rights, there is an area of overlap between SDL079-NWT and SDL079-CAN (the NWT portion and government of Canada's portion). This is because at the time of devolution when the oil and gas rights were being split along jurisdictional boundaries, there was no surveyed delimitation accurate enough for the purposes of splitting these rights in this location. In the Definitions section of the Final Devolution Agreement document, states the following:(ttt) "Onshore" means,(i) lands, including lands under water, that lie landward of the low waterline (high-water line in respect of Settlement Lands ownedby the IRC) of the sea coast of the mainland or any naturallyoccurring permanent island in that part of Canada lying north ofthe sixtieth parallel of north latitude and not within Yukon,Nunavut or any province;(ii) lands under water within Small Enclosed Bays along the seacoast of the mainland or any naturally occurring permanentisland in that part of Canada referred to in paragraph (i); and(iii) lands, including lands under water, that lie landward of the Lineof Delimitation and seaward of the low-water line of the seacoast of the mainland in that part of Canada referred in toparagraph (i),but does not include any lands seaward of the Line of Delimitationother than the lands on the islands referred to in paragraph (i) or landsunder water within Small Enclosed Bays along the sea coast of suchislands referred to in paragraph (ii).This means that within the Inuvialuit Settlement Region that all lands landward of the high water mark the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has jurisdiction. Seaward of the high water mark, the Government of Canada has jurisdiction. The complication comes due to the lack of any official land / marine survey which clearly and legally defines the high water mark in the area of SDL079-NWT / SDL079-CAN, therefore until a legal survey is complete delineating this break and applying it to the SDL there must remain an overlap between the NWT and Government of Canada boundary definitions.The boundary of SDL012 at the Yukon / Northwest Territories border was edited to topologically refect the boundary of the Northwest Territories border at 1:1,000,000 scale. The boundary used to match the SDL against was teh Atlast of Canada 1:1,000,000 boundary, which can be found here: http://ftp.geogratis.gc.ca/pub/nrcan_rncan/vector/framework_cadre/Atlas_of_Canada_1M/. The Yukon government uses a different base to "trim" the edge of their portion of the licences that fall within thir jurisdiction. Based on the nomenclature of their filename, presumably at 1:50,000 scale, but there is no publicly available base at 1:50,000 that depicts the boundary between the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, as a GIS data set that the editior of this GIS data set has found that will allow trimming SDL012 to, therefore at the present time SDL012 has been made topologically consistant to the boundary of the Atlas of Canada 1:1,000,000 Northwest Territories boundary.February 2, 2017 - Updates to the NWT Oil and Gas Rights Feature Class:The following are what it contains (271 entities in total) when classified using codes in the AGREEETYP:EL = Exploration Licence - count = 15PL = Production Licence - count = 23PPL = Oil and gase lease under former regulations, a Pioneer Lease - count = 8SDL = Significant Discovery Licence - count = 84CDD = Commercial Discovery Declaration - count = 16SDD = Significant Discovery Declaration - count = 125April 25, 2016 - Updates to the NWT Oil and Gas Rights Feature Class:In order to accomodate the additional information indicating the responsible authority editing and or creating new land tenture parcels, or updating the attributes of land tenure parcels, additional fields were created within the feature class. LAS is part of the Petroleum Resources Division with ITI in Inuvik. The digital files are provided in shapefile format Attribute data contains: Title Id, Representative Name, Region, Date of Issuance, Expiry Date, and Area (hectares). These files are updated on a regular basis but may not be current on a particular day. Clients are cautioned to contact the Rights Administrator to confirm the accuracy or currency of information contained herein.Users should note that the legal descriptions of these rights using grid and section number as prescribed by the Canada Oil and Gas Lands Regulations are to be found in the title documents, copies of which may be obtained on application to the Registar.
