Description: A list of communities in the Northwest Territories. Use the 'Aboriginal Sans' or 'Aboriginal Serif' fonts for the attributes and labels to display properly. These fonts can be downloaded from: http://www.languagegeek.com/font/fontdownload.html. The metadata was created by Cathie Harper and locations were adjusted to match National Road Network community centres by Kyle Rentmeister. Attributes were derived from various sources including NWTCG, IMAG-INAC, NWT Languages Commissioner, PWNHC Official Community Names, etc.
Description: This data is used to represent the boundaries of land where the Commissioner of the Northwest Territories has administration and control and is used to determine who has jurisdiction over the land. This data set is not to be used for defining the exact location of the boundaries; administrative decisions should be based on legal documents and legal survey plans referred to in the Order in Council documents.
Block Land Transfer Boundaries: This data represents the boundary of the area in which the Commissioner of the Northwest Territories has administration and control of the land. These boundaries are established by an Order In Council (OIC) describing the land to be transferred from Her Majesty the Queen to the Commissioner.

Description: This data is used to represent the boundaries of land defining communities that have been declared as a Settlement under the Settlements Act or incorporated under the Charter Communities Act, the Cities, Towns and Villages Act, the Hamlets Act or the Settlements Act. This data set is not to be used for defining the exact location of the boundaries; administrative decisions should be based on legal documents and legal survey plans.
Community Boundaries: This data represents the defined boundaries of geographic areas within which each community can realistically and regularly enforce its authority over all matters within its jurisdiction. The community boundary reflects a sense of common association whereby people within that boundary relate to the locality as a centre for services. The boundary is of such a size and scope as to allow the community government the capability to meet reasonable service demands for municipal services to be delivered in a cost-effective manner to all community residents.
