Description: A shapefile illustrating the locations of MVAP non-orthorectified air photos. Attribute information includes camera, focal lenght, film exposure, film roll and exposure number, camera orientation, aircraft bearing, and camera location (latitude-longitude). MVAP orthophotos and tiles are not shown on this dataset, refer to file: MVAP_TILEINDEX for this information.

Description: The Mackenzie Valley Air Photo (MVAP) Project is a multi-year, multimillion dollar mapping project (2003-2008) involving three federal departments -- Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), Natural Resources Canada, Environment Canada -- and the Government of Northwest Territories as partners. The INAC-lead project is part of a federal government program to support and prepare for development of northern oil and gas, on behalf of federal and territorial government agencies, aboriginal land claim groups, industry, and other interest groups. The data represent a digital orthophoto of the Mackenzie River, Northwest Territories, which spans from the Alberta border to the Beaufort Sea (10° of latitude). This MVAP dataset represents 709 orthophoto tiles over three UTM zones (8 to 10). Each tile has a unique identifies that is representative of the MVAP data products; orthophotos, contour data digital evevation (DEM) data.

Description: The land cover classification gives a picture of vegetation and land cover distribution at a particular point in time (1989). It can provide a baseline for future land cover monitoring. It can be used as a land cover layer for a wide range of GIS applications. This product was created with Northern Oil and Gas Action Plan (NOGAP) funding.
Description: The land cover classification of Tuktut Nogait National Park, NWT (69 N, 122 W) is a thematic map produced by Parks Canada Agency (Western Arctic Field Unit) and the NWT Centre for Remote Sensing from satellite imagery. The land cover / vegetation classes were mapped from digital, multispectral Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) image data. Parts of three scenes were used to cover the park area: 56-11 and 56-12 from 29 June 1992 and 54-12 from 2 July 1998. The land cover classes consist of vegetation classes (such as wet sedge meadow and dry tundra) and non-vegetated surface types (such as sand/gravel and water). Classification was performed using computerized supervised classification techniques on the digital multispectral bands, with unsupervised classification techniques used for some non-vegetated classes, and some manual editing. Field work by Parks Canada staff provided information to match the spectral response on the imagery ("colours") to vegetation and land cover types. The classification data covers most of Tuktut Nogait National Park and an area extending 6 km or more beyond the park border. UTM 10 NAD83 projection. 25-m pixel raster data. Recommended scale: 1:75,000 to 1:500,000.

Description: The purpose of this work was to generate a spatially consistent land cover dataset of northern Canada with sufficient detail required by scientists and other users interested in studying processes in the Canadian Arctic regions above the tree line.
Description: Land cover distribution at coarse spatial resoluton for environmental information needed for scientific analyses, resource management and policy development at regional, continental and global levels
Description: The goal of the Northern BIOsphere and Modeling Experiment (NBIOME) is to improve the understanding of the relationship between the climate and the northern ecosystems, including their seasonal and interannual dynamics and their role in the global carbon cycle. The objective of the work which produced this land cover product was to generate an up-to-date, spatially and temporally consistent land cover map of the landmass of Canada for subsequent use by NBIOME scientists and other users interested in environmental information at national and regional scales.
